ChatGPT Plus vs Pro: Price and What You Get in 2026
ChatGPT Plus costs $20/mo and Pro comes in $100, $200 and $500 tiers. Compare US prices, limits, Codex, ads and the $8 Go plan to pick the right ChatGPT plan.

In this article
ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month in the US. ChatGPT Pro now comes in three tiers: $100, $200 and $500 a month (Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500). For most people Plus is enough. Pro makes sense when you hit Plus limits every week on reasoning, Codex or deep research. Below are US prices checked in October 2026, what each plan includes and how to choose.
How much is ChatGPT Plus vs Pro in 2026?
Here are the individual plans on ChatGPT's pricing page, with US prices:
| Plan | Price | Ads | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | may appear | trying ChatGPT, everyday chats |
| Go | $8/mo | may appear | longer conversations, more uploads |
| Plus | $20/mo | no | advanced work and productivity |
| Pro 100 | $100/mo | no | heavy reasoning and Codex use |
| Pro 200 | $200/mo | no | more Pro usage |
| Pro 500 | $500/mo | no | maximum usage plus Ultrafast |
All of these are monthly. OpenAI's help center says there's no annual billing and no way to pay several months in advance for Go, Plus or Pro. A year of Plus is $240; a year of Pro 100 is $1,200.

What do you get with ChatGPT Plus?
According to OpenAI's pricing page, Plus includes everything in Go, plus:
- advanced reasoning models with GPT-6;
- more messages and uploads than Go;
- more complex and accurate image creation;
- expanded deep research, memory and context;
- projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs;
- expanded Codex usage and access to ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile;
- early access to new features.
Plus still has limits. OpenAI's Plus help page notes that usage caps can apply, especially at busy times, and that API usage is billed separately. If you only notice the limits once or twice a month, Plus is the right plan.
What does ChatGPT Pro add over Plus?
Pro includes everything in Plus and adds Pro reasoning powered by GPT-6 Astra, longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions, Dot (an always-on agent), unlimited and faster image creation, and maximum deep research, memory and context.
The three tiers mostly differ in how much you can use:
- Pro 100 ($100/mo): the entry tier.
- Pro 200 ($200/mo): more included usage than Pro 100.
- Pro 500 ($500/mo): the highest allowance and the only tier with Ultrafast for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol.
A few details from OpenAI's Pro tiers page matter before you buy:
- New Pro 200 subscriptions come with a lower usage allowance than the plan used to offer. The price stays $200.
- Canceling and resubscribing can change your included usage, so think twice before pausing Pro.
- Where your account allows it, you can buy credits for Codex, ChatGPT Work and the Word, Excel and PowerPoint extensions once your allowance runs out.
- Ultrafast uses your allowance at 8 times the Standard rate, so it drains a Pro 500 plan quickly.
Is ChatGPT Pro worth it?
Pro 100 costs five times as much as Plus, so the question is whether you actually run out. Pro tends to pay off if:
- you hit Plus limits on reasoning or deep research several times a week;
- you use Codex or ChatGPT Work for long sessions as part of paid work;
- waiting for a limit to reset costs you more than $80 a month in lost time.
Stay on Plus if your heavy weeks are rare. Upgrading for one busy month is fine, as long as you step back down afterward: forgetting to do that is one of the easiest ways to overspend on AI.
Between the Pro tiers, start at Pro 100 and move up only if you hit its allowance. Pro 500 is mainly for people who need Ultrafast or the very highest limits.
One more option if the need is for work: Go, Plus and Pro are personal plans. If two or more people at your company need ChatGPT, OpenAI's pricing page points to ChatGPT Business, which starts at 2 users and offers monthly or annual billing. Check whether your employer already pays for it before you buy Pro yourself.
ChatGPT Go and Free: when you don't need Plus
Free gives unlimited everyday text chats with GPT-6, with tighter limits on uploads, images, voice, deep research and Codex. Go, at $8 a month, raises those limits and adds longer memory. Per the Go help page, Go's Think mode runs on GPT-5.6 Luna, and Go doesn't include GPT-5.6 Sol or the advanced GPT-6 reasoning that comes with Plus.
The other difference is ads. OpenAI started testing ads in the US on February 9, 2026, and says they may appear on Free and Go, but not on Plus or Pro. If you mostly write, study and ask everyday questions, Go is the cheapest way to get more than Free.
How ChatGPT compares with Claude and Gemini on price
At the $20 level, the big assistants cost almost the same in the US (prices checked in October 2026):
| Service | Entry paid plan | Higher tiers |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Go $8/mo, Plus $20/mo | Pro $100, $200, $500/mo |
| Claude | Pro $20/mo | Max 5x $100/mo, Max 20x $200/mo |
| Google AI | AI Plus $9.99/mo, AI Pro $19.99/mo | — |
Since prices are so close, choose by how you work, and avoid paying for two assistants that do the same job. Our AI subscriptions comparison covers what each one is best at.
Tips before you upgrade or downgrade
- Pay on one platform only. If you subscribed in the iPhone or Android app, Apple or Google bills you. Subscribing again on the web means two charges.
- Cancel where you bought it. Web plans are canceled in ChatGPT's settings; app plans in the App Store or Google Play. Deleting the app doesn't cancel anything.
- Time your downgrade. Switching from Plus or Pro to Go doesn't refund the current month. Your plan stays active until the end of the cycle and the lower price starts after that.
- Track the real yearly cost. $20 a month looks small, but Plus and a $20 coding tool together come to $480 a year. Our guide to annual vs monthly subscriptions shows how to compare.
How Subfaro helps
Subfaro is a subscription tracker. Add ChatGPT, pick your plan, and the price fills in. Prices of more than 100 services are checked every week, so you get an alert when a plan's price changes and a reminder before each charge.
If you upgrade to Pro for a busy month, set the date and Subfaro will remind you before the next renewal, so you can step back down in time. The free plan covers up to 10 subscriptions with no time limit. Create your free account.
