To cancel Amazon Prime, go to Amazon's Cancel Your Prime Membership page (amazon.com/mc) and follow the prompts. If you signed up through Google Play or another company, such as a phone carrier, you cancel with them instead. And if your account hasn't used any Prime benefits or made eligible purchases since the last charge, Amazon refunds the full membership fee.
Below: the steps for each way of paying, Amazon's refund rules, the channel subscriptions that keep billing after Prime ends, and two cheaper moves to consider first. US prices, checked in October 2026.
How to cancel Amazon Prime on the web
If Amazon charges your card directly, Amazon's help page keeps it short:
- Sign in to your Amazon account in a web browser, on a computer or your phone.
- Open Cancel Your Prime Membership (amazon.com/mc).
- Follow the prompts all the way to the final confirmation screen.
- Take a screenshot and keep the confirmation email.
On a free trial? The same page ends it. Amazon's terms say you can cancel any time before your renewal date to avoid the next charge, so don't wait for the last day.
One thing people mix up: Kindle Unlimited, Amazon Music Unlimited and Audible are separate subscriptions with their own charges. If the charge you want to stop is one of those, find it in Your Memberships and Subscriptions instead.
How to cancel Amazon Prime on your phone (Android and iPhone)
It depends on where you signed up, not on the phone you use:
- Signed up on Amazon's website but use the app? Open amazon.com/mc in your phone's browser and follow the same steps.
- Signed up through Google Play on Android? Amazon says to cancel through Google's subscription services.
- Billed by Apple? Anything Apple bills you for, including subscriptions bought in the Prime Video app on iPhone, is canceled in your Apple subscriptions.
Not sure? Look at your card statement. The merchant name tells you where to cancel. Our general cancellation guide has the App Store and Google Play steps.
Where to cancel, by who bills you
| How you signed up | Where to cancel |
|---|---|
| Directly with Amazon | amazon.com/mc |
| Google Play (Amazon app on Android) | Google Play subscriptions |
| A carrier or another company's service | That company |
| Prime Video channels (Paramount+ and others) | Your Memberships and Subscriptions |
Amazon's rule for third parties is simple: if your Prime membership is associated with another company's service, contact that company to cancel. Its billing terms and refund policy apply, not Amazon's.
Prime Video channels keep billing after Prime ends
Amazon warns that subscriptions on Prime Video, like Paramount+, will continue once your Prime membership ends. Cancel Prime and forget the channel, and the channel charge keeps coming.
Open Your Memberships and Subscriptions in your account. It lists your active, canceled and expired subscriptions with renewal dates and prices. Cancel each channel you don't want.
Paying for the Prime Video ad-free add-on? If that extra cost is the problem, you can cancel just the add-on in your Prime Video settings and keep Prime.
Will Amazon refund my Prime membership?
It depends on timing and usage. The Amazon Prime Terms & Conditions, last updated August 14, 2026, say:
- Within 3 business days of signing up or of a free trial converting to paid: full refund, but Amazon may charge (or withhold) the value of Prime benefits you used in that window.
- Any other time: a full refund only if you and your account made no eligible purchases and didn't use Prime benefits since your latest Prime charge.
- Signed up through a third party: that company's refund policy applies.
Amazon's help page adds that refunds are processed in three to five business days. In practice, a yearly membership that auto-renewed and sat unused (no orders, no Prime Video) fits the full-refund rule. One used last week for free shipping doesn't.
Charged after you canceled? That's a billing error, and you can dispute it. See how to dispute a subscription charge.
What the FTC's Amazon Prime settlement means for you
In September 2025, the FTC reached a $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon over Prime enrollment and cancellation: a $1 billion civil penalty plus $1.5 billion in refunds. Amazon has to stop the enrollment and cancellation practices the FTC challenged.
Refunds go to US Prime customers who signed up through a challenged enrollment flow, or tried to cancel online and couldn't, between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025, and used no more than 20 Prime benefits in any 12-month period. Per the FTC's Amazon refunds page:
- Payments are automatic (check, PayPal or Venmo), up to $200 per eligible customer, through April 2027.
- Payments expire 60 days after they're issued, so cash them promptly.
- Neither the FTC nor Amazon will ask you for a fee to get a refund. Treat anyone who does as a scam.
How to avoid being charged again
- Free trial: Amazon upgrades a trial to a paid membership automatically when it ends. Note the end date and cancel before it.
- Price changes: Amazon's terms say it will notify you before a renewal at a higher fee. That email is your cue to decide.
- Channels and side subscriptions: check Your Memberships and Subscriptions for Paramount+, Kindle Unlimited, Audible and similar.
- Carriers and partners: check that company's bill, not just your card.
- Proof: keep the screenshot and confirmation email until the next billing date passes.
Cheaper options before you cancel
Pause instead of canceling
If you pay Amazon directly, you can pause Prime from Prime Central. Monthly members can pause for one month and auto-resume; monthly or annual members can pause for up to a year and resume manually (after 365 straight days paused, the membership is canceled). The pause starts after the current billing cycle, you lose Prime benefits while paused, and subscriptions tied to Prime end. Third-party, Prime Video-only, Prime Business, Student, Prime Shipping-only, trial and discounted memberships can't pause.
Switch to a cheaper plan
US prices checked in October 2026. The last three rows come from Amazon's Prime fee page, where you can check who qualifies:
| Plan | Price | Cost over 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Prime monthly | $14.99/mo | $179.88 |
| Amazon Prime yearly | $139/yr | $139 (about $11.58/mo) |
| Prime Video membership | $8.99/mo | $107.88 |
| Prime for Young Adults (eligibility rules apply) | $7.49/mo or $69/yr | $69 on the yearly plan |
| Prime Access | $6.99/mo | $83.88 |
Going yearly saves $40.88 a year if you'd keep Prime all year anyway. If you mostly watch Prime Video and rarely order, the Prime Video membership costs less. Prime Access is for EBT, Medicaid, SNAP and other select government assistance recipients who verify eligibility. Before switching, read annual vs. monthly: when yearly pays off and whether Amazon Prime is worth it in 2026.
Has Amazon Prime gotten more expensive?
Not recently in the US: Prime has cost $14.99/mo and $139/yr since February 18, 2022. Netflix and Spotify, by contrast, have raised US prices several times since then; see subscription price increases. Current plans are on Amazon Prime in Subfaro.
How Subfaro helps
Subfaro keeps your subscriptions in one place and alerts you before each charge, including before a free trial ends, so a Prime renewal doesn't catch you off guard. It shows each service's official cancel link and alerts you when a price changes.
Once you cancel with Amazon, mark Prime as canceled in Subfaro to keep your tracker accurate. That doesn't cancel anything at Amazon; you do that on the Prime page. The free plan tracks up to 10 subscriptions with no time limit. Create your free account.
FAQ
How do I cancel Amazon Prime?
If Amazon bills you directly, go to the Cancel Your Prime Membership page at amazon.com/mc and follow the prompts. If you signed up through Google Play or another company, such as a phone carrier, cancel with that company.
Will Amazon refund my Prime membership if I cancel?
Under Amazon's Prime terms, canceling within 3 business days of signing up or of a free trial converting gets a full refund, minus the value of benefits used. After that, you get a full refund only if your account made no eligible purchases and used no Prime benefits since the latest charge.
Does canceling Prime cancel Paramount+ and other Prime Video channels?
No. Amazon says subscriptions on Prime Video, like Paramount+, continue once your Prime membership ends. Cancel each one in Your Memberships and Subscriptions.
Can I pause Amazon Prime instead of canceling?
Yes, if you pay Amazon directly. Monthly members can pause for one month with automatic resume, and monthly or annual members can pause for up to a year and resume manually. Trials, discounted offers, Prime Video-only and third-party memberships can't be paused.
